"robgraham" <rttgrahamwow@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:ZrCdnTw9c8cqnrHXnZ2dnUVZ8qudnZ2d@xxxxxxxxxI have a desktop and a laptop, both using XP. The desktop connects to the net via a router and I can (usually) connect the laptop wirelessly. I also use the laptop at a distance too great to obtain a wireless connection so I use a Belkin Powerline adaptor to connect via the house's mains.
At the moment I am unable to get connected either wirelessly or via the Belkin. Messages tell me that I have limited or no connectivity. I've started the WZC, I've checked the 'TCP/IP' box, I've checked the box 'obtain an IP address automatically', I've closed the computer down and restarted it and I've disconnected and reconnected the cables and router. Now I'm stuck with no success. The IP address the machine is finding does not appear to be the correct one - according to BT whose Home Hub router I'm using.
Can anyone help here?

Rob Graham
You need to tell us the IP address used by your router. You also need to post the output from this command:
ipconfig /all
Router IP 192.168.1.64
ipconfig /all output -
Host name: Graham
Primary DNS suffix::
Node Type: Mixed
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No
DNS Suffix Search List: home
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix: home
Description: Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Physical address: 00-18-F3-77-FD-A7
Dhcp enabled: Yes
IP address: 192.168.1.66
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
DHCP Server:192.168.1.254
DNS Servers:192.168.1.254
Lease obtained: 08 June 2009 00:57:50
Lease expires: 09 June 2009 00:57:50
Your report tells me this:
- Your router's IP address is 192.168.1.64
- Your Gateway address is 192.168.1.254
- Your DNS server address is 192.168.1.254
- Your PC's IP address is 192.168.1.66
There is something wrong here. In order to get onto the Internet, your Gateway and DNS addresses must point at your router. They don't - they point at 192.168.1.254. Which device owns this address?
Here is what I would expect to find:
- Router address: 192.168.1.254
- Gateway addresss: 192.168.1.254
- DNS server address: 192.168.1.254
- PC IP address: 192.168.1.66
