Why not use the Microsoft Camera & Scanner Wizard?
You may have to stray from the format IMG_111.JPG but if I have pics
in a folder like Alan and they are named Alan 001.jpg...Alan 022.jpg
then the next time I attach my camera and use that folder, the files
start from the next number, i.e. Alan 023.jpg....
I suspect yours are in a folder with a date name, so they would
normally start from scratch.
....Alan

I have two computers, both running WinXP SP3. On my old one, I've been using.
Dell Image Expert to download photos from my Canon camera, which I then copy
to my other computer (as a kind of backup). Each time I download more
photos, Dell continues the numbering of the JPGs, using the format
IMG_111.JPG.
Today, for the first time, I tried downloading photos directly to my new
computer, which doesn't have the Dell program on it. Using Microsoft Office
Picture Manager, I could "name" the images (so presumably I can use the same
system Dell does). However, the images are numbered from the beginning. Is
there a way I can continue the numbering--say, by stating the first number
and then asking for consecutive numbering from that point on? I checked the
Help file but didn't see anything obvious. I'm hoping there's a general rule
for consecutive numbering of photos from a certain point--one that would
work with any of the photo programs.
Thank you!
