Hi Seabat...unfortunately there still is no joy in Mudville.
I was able to delete the ghost file from my add/remove programs. Proceeded
with the download as you suggested but received the message "this product is
already installed would you like to install" again so said yes but then it
gave me a new message saying this is only available for products currently
installed or something to that effect. I tried researching online for others
that have received that message and found they were able to resolve it by
deleting two items in their registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER >software >JavaSoft
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >software > JavaSoft
I was only able to delete the current user JavaSoft folder. I tried
starting in safe mode as administrator but still could not delete the second
folder. Tried reinstalling Java but I received the same messages that I
already have the update but I really do not.
Any suggestions?

Where are you getting your copy of Sun Java? From here?Thank you both for your suggestions. I am still having a problem.
I uninstalled the versions I could using add/remove. This left me with the
ghost files I mentioned and Java 6 update 13. I used JavRa and it removed
the ghost files. My Java still did not work so I downloaded Java 6 update 13
again and during the install I am getting the same message I get when I try
to uninstall this same version...it cannot find the installation package
jre1.6.0_10-c.msi I believe this is my problem. Any idea how I can dowload
that particular installation package?

I think you are trying to install java from the website online? Try
this:
Download the one for 'offline installation', it is about 15mb. It is
an EXE file. Download it somewhere you can find it. Now un install all
and any java you have on the pc (except what you have just downloaded,
of course!). Run JavRe. Reboot!
Now just double click on the exe file you downloaded and install.
Reboot!
Is there joy in Mudville??
Also the instructions on the one website say not to uninstall JVM but I
believe mine must have gotten uninstalled when I used the windows cleanup
program. Is it possible to download that program? Do I need it?

I have windows XP sp3, IE8
Pogo games said I needed to update my Java to play. I updated to 6 update
13. Did not work. I read you should uninstall all previous versions except
6 update 13 so removed them all. That did not work. I then did a system
restore but during the restore my computer crashed. When I restarted I had
what I call ghost files of all the previous Java versions in my add/remove
programs list. I was unable to uninstall them. So I reinstalled 6 update 13
but I still could not play. So I then tried the MS program that gets rid of
unwanted leftover items in add/remove programs and it did remove them from
there but it also removed the contents from my Java Folder in the Control
Panel so now I can't even try to enable Java and Java no longer shows in my
advanced tab. I tried restoring to the restore point before I used that
program but it did not put back the contents of that folder. I have tried
removing 6 update 13 but it shows it cannot find the path to the installation
package jre1.6.0_10-c.msi. Installing 6 update 10 did not help.
