Re: 1900x1200 screen display resolution not sticking - help.

never mind about hte admin thing. I rebooted again and I was able to install.

But I still have my original problem. SLight twist. It falls back to 800x600
32 bit. A minimal improvement (32 bit).

I start to suspect the multiuser setup to be an issue. Therefore, I wonder
if I could force it from the registry?

Hi,

I uninstalled the driver using ATI utility
rebooted
used driver sweeper (I noticed that some ati files are coming back after a
clean)
downlaoded the latest driver from powercolor

Started the installation of the driver => the isntall tells me that it wors
only as an admin. However, I'm an admin...
So, this version is no good? The CD version doesn't calim I'm not the admin.
Could I risk the offical ATI driver?

Hi,

I ended up replacing a X600 with a PowerColor HD2400Pro.
I installed the latest drivers from the ATI web site (9.5 - I believe).

I have one problem: the selected resolution doesn't stick. Whenever I
reboot, it reverts back to 640x480, 8 bit color. I can set it back from
Catalyst. However, after the reboot it will go back.

More information:
1.) I can change the resolution only from Catalyst - not from the windows
display settings dialog !!
2.) As a test I did run directx test. After the test comes back from the
3D
test (rotating cube) the screen resolution reverts back to 640x480 as well
!!
3.) The problem also happens after a user switch

In the meantime I also did a total uninstall with the ATI uninstall and
installed the version of the driver that came on a CD with the card
(8.5x).
Same problem.

Could it be that the resolution info is not written correctly in the
registry?
Is there a way to force the resolution through the registry?
What are the registry values that represent the current resolution? Are
there several entries? i.e. system default, then user setting?

quest:
(It goes without saying that your monitor supports the 1900 x 1200
resolution, right?)

The following may not resolve your problem, but let me mention it anyway...

We have also run into driver issues re a couple of PowerColor graphics cards
we've worked with, although not the same model you have. The problems we
encountered weren't precisely the same as yours but did involve driver
issues even when we installed the latest ATI driver as well as the driver
from PC's installation CD.

Anyway, try this in the meantime, assuming you haven't already done so...
Access http://www.powercolor.com/Global/support_driver.asp?ProductID=1362
and download/install the XP driver for your card. Do so even if the version
(8.52) is presumably the same version on the PC driver CD or earlier than
the one you've already installed via ATI.

It would probably be best to uninstall the present ATI drivers and whatever
other ATI-based software programs are listed from Add or Remove Programs
before installing the v8.52 driver.

While I'm not terribly sanguine about all this correcting the problem, it's
worth a shot.
Anna
