Pop up box over everything

After doing random tasks, I have noticed a few times that a box pops
up too fast to tell what it is.
It goes away so fast that I can only see the outline.
Is there any way to tell what caused the popup. I can't tell for sure
but I don't think it is caused by the browser. (I use Firefox and IE
depending on what I am doing)
