The events properties default Maximum log size is 512 KB. When the maximum
log size is reached the default is to "Overwrite events as needed", if the
choice here is "Do not overwrite events" you have to clear logs manually for
new events to be recorded. Another choice "Overwrite events older than 7
days" would also cause the problem on a new installation because when log
fills up (512 KB) before 7 days there is nothing to overwrite. You can check
these settings in Events Viewer > Action menu > Properties
