To be honest, McAfee/Norton/Symantec are all wastes of time IMO. They don't
do anything you can't already do with the free anti virus apps, and they're
rip-offs. Constant popups about expired subscriptions and warning you that
they're going to leave your system unprotected unless you pay them within
24hrs sounds far too similar to some of the spyware/adware crap going around
these days for my liking. I'd be far happier with MBAM on a system, or even
as a last resort AVG.

I have not tried Safe Mode. That was going to be my first thing I try when
I
get home tonight. Without having the internet or being able to access Help
and Support from Windows, I didn't think to try that yesterday.
I have *tried* contacting McAfee but of course they make it so hard to
connect with someone. Tried to do live chat, but I'm on a Mac at work and
it's only for PCs. Tried to find a phone number, but they don't have one
for
US customers for support. The only option is to do a program you download
and
someone tries to fix it from there, but obviously I cannot connect to the
internet anymore with this problem so I can't get that program on my home
computer! It is very frustrating. I did post on the forums there but so
far
no help from anyone.
I am fairly certain the pop-up was from McAfee. They looked exactly like
countless others I have gotten from them. But I suppose you never know.
Hopefully I can get my computer going in Safe Mode tonight and get some
programs open, especially the internet so I can do some support while
actually on the computer there and not just at work.
Thank you everybody for your help. I really appreciate it. I am lost
without
computer use at home! :)

I know you've tried System Restore without any luck, but did you try it
from
Safe Mode? Do these symptoms still persist even in Safe Mode?

Yesterday I kept getting a pop-up message from McAfee telling me I
needed
to
restart my computer since they had updated or fixed something. I kept
pressing cancel as I was busy doing things and didn't want to restart.
Later in the day when it popped up again, I finally decided to click on
restart. Well, ever since then, nothing has worked on my computer!
It starts up fine, but when it gets to the desktop, the Start bar (task
bar?) is completely gone. A little error message always pops up from
"Multimedia Card Reader" saying "There is not enough resources." My
card
reader is empty, by the way.
Then, when I double click on various programs, nothing opens. I can get
My
Computer to open, but not Help and Support.
When I open my internet, no sites can be found, even though all the
lights
on my cable modem are on and fine.
I had to wait until this morning when I got to work to look up some
solutions for this since I can no longer get online and cannot access
the
help and support on my computer.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get my computer back??
Thanks so much in advance.
