Thanks for responding. Yes I did google for "XP hangs at MUP.Sys" I tried
every suggestion listed by tons of people who have had or are still having
same problem. None worked. I noticed the ssytem would just automatically
shut down after booting to certain point (MUP.sys) being the last display on
the screen. As a last resort, I removed the hard drive and plugged it into
another desktop running XP... did chkdsk /f. The system bootted up Ok
afterwards. However a certain problem remain... the system sort of freezes
after running for say 5- 10 minutes. I am trying to fix that right now...

During boot up my XP system gives option to log in to Safe Mode, Safe
Mode with Networking, Last Known Good configuration and Start Normally.
The system hangs at MUP.sys regardless of which option selected... and
automatically rebots again... and the cycle repeats.
Please help
