While I couldn't see where permissions could be manipulated under the sharing
tab, I tried what may be an alternative way. I went into control panel/
folder options and unclicked simple file sharing. Then I right clicked the c
drive/ permissions / security. I noted systems and administrator had full
control. Administrator was identified with my user name but my user name
listed below didn't have full control. I don't know if that's unusual or not,
nevertheless I clicked to give my user name full control and then hit apply.
But I get the waiting hourglass which hasn't yet gone away after 5 minutes of
wait. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. Any other ideas?

Navigate in explorer to the root of the drive. Right-click the label for C:\.
and choose properties. Click on the Sharing tab. From there you should be
able to manipulate permissions, if you have adminsitrative rights to the
drive.

I have gone to the root file which is the 'jre1.6.0_11c.msi file and clicked
on properties so as to change the permissions but can't see where I can
change it. I've done this before but either I'm not remembering how to change
the permissions (which is likely) or something else is wrong. Additionally, I
am the sole user of this PC so I'm the administrator but can' t seem to fix
this coninuing problem regardless.
BTW, I use windows xp pro sp3.

I was attempting to install the latest upgrade to java and received an Error
1305.
It read as follows: Error 1305.Error reading from file C:\ <file path>
Verify file exists and that you can access it. Initially, I followed the
path, saw the file and could access it, but it still gives me the same error
message. Microsoft's help site was helpless as it only assured me that my
problem was with my cd rom which is ridiculous since I was downloading from
the Java website. I am now experiencing additional problems such as Microsoft
Restore doesn't work anymore and I can no longer defrag my C drive. I really
don't want to do a clean reinstall if I can help it.
BTW, the installation error isn't just with Java as I have experienced
similar problems with other software but not all. Seems the windows installer
is the problem.
