In my win xp, there are 2 users B1 and G2. The system was corrupted that
We
could not even type in the password to log in.
So, my friend had it 'slaved' in his pc and was able to copy out the files
of B1 but not G2 (access denied)
So I bot another hdd and install the OS, create an account G2 (with admin
rights) and same password. Then attached the old hdd as slave into my pc,
hoping to get access to the file but was denied.
Why is that so? Is there any other ways that I can get access to the files
as they are photos etc, thanks for your efforts.
As mentioned by another poster, this is likely simply a matter of Taking
Ownership.
However, if the OS is XP Pro, it's *possible* that the user invoked
encryption to make files more private. If that's the case, you won't gain
unencrypted access unless you boot from the original drive to a user account
and import the original account's credentials. Unfortunately, exporting
these is an option that many people don't exercise, and consequently
permanently lose the data. This feature is not available on XP Home, so
if that's the OS version, there's no worry in this regard.
