I've got a computer that is doing looping (reboots 100% of the time)
when it gets to the 'windows is starting up' (about 3 seconds after it
gets to it). It says nothing about registry problems. I've seen
where RegCure can fix this problem, but I cannot get into Windows to
register it so it will fix things.
I can get into the computer using ERD Commander (I own the
Administrator pack) and can run RegCure, but I cannot register the
program because I have no Internet connection with this computer in
ERD Commander.
Originally I thought it was a problem with the hard drive. When I
tried to run SpinRite the program would give an error message saying
there was a problem with the drive. I purchased a new one and
'ghosted' it (using HDClone (used the free one and then purchased the
standard version - highly recommended)).
With the new drive, information copied with no errors I had the exact
same problem. I have the identical computer (HP dx5150 Small Form
Factor) and two identical drives. All data is backed up. The problem
occurs with all hard drives with both computers (one of them
known-good).
The computer is for a client so I'll be able to put the problem drive
into my existing computer in order to let the client access the files.
I'm stumped about how to fix this. In ERD Commander, if I load the
registry I can move around in the command module, but as soon as I go
into any graphical environment it causes a blue screen within a few
seconds 100% of the time.
I've tried to export and look at the system.evt logfiles but they come
up as corrupted.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Could be a buggy driver. Did you try booting into Safe Mode?
Have a look here: http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0xc2 and look for the string
