I had him try the I386 folder but it wasn't there.

Could you mention the make and model number of computer ?
Or if the machine was built from parts (home brew), what
is the motherboard make and model ?
The machine could have sound on the motherboard (with
audio connectors in the I/O plate area). Or there
could be a separate sound card in the PCI slot area.
Then, you'd need to mention the PCI Sound card
brand and model.
No OS ships with every driver you could ever need.
For example, when I used the WinXP CD to install
on this computer, there was no sound driver for me.
So I had yellow marks to deal with too.

Hi Paul,
Actually that isn't correct. OS X ships with the drivers needed for any Apple computer that will run it. I'm not one for supporting Apple and their proprietary methods. But at least for this issue, it works.
Yeah, until you add third party hardware. I have one Mac with
six PCI slots and they're all full. The latest Mac is only
two out of four slots full, but that is because the box is hard
to get into (one of those sandwich-style cases, like a
Dell). Some of that third party stuff is pretty
twitchy. One SCSI card won't dual boot into the older
OS9 or MacOSX without a driver change (and I've forgotten
the details about what to do for that one).
To make matters worse, with the subscription style of
the OS, for one of my cards (ATI video), they only
offered a driver upgrade if I wanted to spend another
$150.00 for the next OS release. No thanks.
So, if you don't do anything with the box, and just
use it as it arrives on your doorstep, you're right.
But everything I've ever bought from them was upgraded,
in some cases with better processors, one got a
$1000 video card and so on. It isn't quite as
seamless, once you take the lid off.
