Re: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA

Gerry that network card we were talking about doesn't appear to be there. The
error code is 39 (which is not listed) but Windows says the device is damaged
or missing- cannot load the driver. When I checked inside the case there is
no plug in circuit board - it is all part of the main board. The device
manager also lists another Networ Device
Marvell Yukon Gigabyte Ethernet10/1000Base -T Adapter, Copper RJ-45
This is listed as working which makes sense as my internet connection via
LAN is ok.
At this point I just do not know, although it seems that any hardware fault
will mean a motherboard replacement, I do not think that repair is an option.
The event viewer is listing several errors - I will investigate them further.

In Device Manager the Network Card appears under Network Adapter. You
have located yours. CNET FAST200WL PCI Wake On Fast Ethernet
Adapter -the key words identifying it are Ethernet Adapter.

To access the Device Error code right click on the device and select
Properties and, if necessary the General tab. The error code appears in
a box headed Device Status. Most codes are detailed in this Knowledge
Base Article but there are a few more now.

Don't forget the problem could be hardware not software.

This is an interesting thread given your problems but it may be me
prejudging what you will find:

I have made no changes recently, but difficult to remember when
problems began exactly. I run Nortons IS 2009, but uninstalling it
makes no difference. Device manager shows 2 items with yellow
exclaimation mark
CNET FAST200WL PCI Wake On Fast Ethernet Adapter-Symantec Network
Security Miniport.
WAN Miniport (IP) - Symantec Network Security Miniport.
I assume this is the network card. How do I access Device error code?
There is no extra info on the error screen .
I would have thought that any hardware problems would show up
regardless of the account in use. I have run several diagnostic test
programs HDTune Nortons Systemworks etc. Also Windows does a memory
check as well.
Gerry any help you can give is appreciated.

0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address
was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM
cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control
and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other
hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI
card).

A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did

Stop:0x0000050 ( 0xFFFFEFF8, 0x00000000, 0x8053A4CC, 0x00000000).
What appears, if anything, on this line? It could be something like
the example below if it's there.
Partmgr.sys - Address F86FF4AB base at F86F0000

Same question for the Stop:0x000007E error?

Have you made any recent hardware / software changes?

What is your network card?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

If you think it might be related to your user profile you do not
need to delete the account you test. Just create a new one and see
if you still get the errors. Remember you may have more than one
problem.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and
double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which
appears is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close
Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the
body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting
from
Event Viewer.

Thank you for your reply Gerry. the problem started with the
following STOP: 50( FFFFEFF8, 00000000, 8053A4CC, 00000000),
It came up with this code consistently originally while I was logged
on and became more frequent. Then I decided to fix it. After many
trials and downloads it would no longer let me log on without a blue
screen. The codes now vary but here is an example
STOP:7E(C0000005, 8065C447, F7C771BD0, F7C7118CC) it is always a 7E
error but the code differs.
In safe mode I can actually log on but it remains fragile. For
example I tried going to my router address with Internet Explorer
resulting in a crash every time. I guess one way out is to delete
that account and start anew, but I lose all my emails. Perhaps if I
could access the settings file, if I knew how, that may prove
useful.

Please post a copy of the Stop Error report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing
the F8 key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic
restart on system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on
system failure. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Do the errors occur if you boot to safe mode?

I have the same problem as Karl. I get a blue screen if I try to
log on to my account, but can log on to my wifes account without a
problem. I have isolated all the drivers as instructed by
microsoft to no avail. I have updated with SP2 and SP3 from the
original XP with the same result. The "error" log tells me it is
an application causing the problem, but does not identify it. I
have had plenty of interesting experiences along the way which
would create an interesting novel.

I have been having the same sort of problem, but with a twist.
My computer only crashes with the below happening when I am the
user logged in.
Anyone other user account on this computer works fine and doesn't
crash.

I'll run thru Uncle John's questions by the numbers, I think
they address the others as well.
1. Sp2 - yes
2. Norton -Symantec - No Have mcafee but same thing happens
after uninstalling.
3. 1 drive on the system with 30gb of a 60gb drive remainig.
"custom size" is checked-with "initial" = 384 and "max" = 768
I have 768 RAM on the system.

thanks for you help

Louise,
This fault can be caused by a combination of using Norton
Antivirus 2004/2005 or SymantecAV 20O4/ 2005 with SP2 installed
and the Virtual Memory settings are other than the original
default. There is a way of fixing this problem but before going
further could you tell us

1 Do you have SP2 installed?
2 Do you have Norton Antivirus or Symantec Antivirus installed?
3 What is the Virtual memory Setting for your ThinkPad? To
check this go Start\Control Panel\System\Advanced Tab.
a In the Performance "Visual Effects, processor scheduling,
memory usage, and virtual memory"box click on the Settings
button b Click on the Advanced Tab under Performance Options
c In the "Virtual Memory" box click on the change button. You
will see a list of all your drives, the first will be
highlighted and in the box below you will see if it has Paging
File size for selected drive. It can be Custom size, System
managed size, No paging file. Note what these setting is and if
there is more than one drive displayed left click on the next
to get the data.
Post the results so I can see if it is useful to post more
information on the fix.

For the last month or so when left on and unattended my
Thinkpad T23 shuts down and the dreaded blue screen appears.
When I open the event log I see system error category 102.
Sending this error to microsoft I get back
"PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA" but now indication on how to fix
it.

The non-page area is part of RAM used for code that is so
essential it may not be paged out. The system code there is
very unlikely to be faulty, the trouble will either be
hardware (RAM) or may be third party software that has
installed itself there. I have heard of this arising with
certain Norton software - if you have installed any,
especially the Security suite, uninstall it and see if the
problem goes away
