When I go to Add/Remove Programs, I see numerous Java files, such as
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
and
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04
and
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 4
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Java(TM) 6 Update 11
and
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
All but one of these is over 100 MB. Can I remove most of these?
Remove them ALL.
Reboot.
Download the latest Offline Installer for Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)
(right now - 6 Update 11) and use it to install the latest version.
Reboot for good measure.
Next time you are offered an Update for your Java - don't accept. Simply
download the latest Offline Installer and remove the old version and install
the new bversion - keeping things nice and neat.
Java's version of 'updating' leaves a lot to be desired.
