when the o.s. tries toThank you for your replies. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.
activate after its installed,
the activation will fail.
however, a phone number
will be provided where a
activation specialist from
india can provide you with
a new activation code to
input manually.
the above is relatively easy
but sometimes burdensome
with less than perfect english
speaking helpers.

the next question and more importantly
than the above is the whether
or not you are prepared to sacrifice
the license for the vista software.
because if you plan to reinstall
winxp as your default o.s., then
you will have to wipe away the
vista o.s. in its entirety if you are
going to downgrade your machine.
on the other hand, i would suggest
that perhaps you install winxp as
a secondary o.s.
the above requires a little planning
because i am a firm believer in
installing one o.s. per disk and
not per partition on a single disk.
but if you do and because you
have a laptop with a single disk
but with ample room, then perhaps
a program from microsoft.com
called virtual pc would be a
tool to keep your hardware
abstract layer-ing stable, as
it was intended for use by
multiple o.s.'s on a single disk.
lastly, but yet not less of any
importance to the above is that
you should double check with
your laptops maker to ensure
that the machine is fully compatiable
with winxp, because you may also
need to downgrade your device
drivers

I installed XP on my computer but that computer in not repairable. I now have
a laptop with Vista and I want to use the XP install disk as a second OS. I
bought the XP disk from Best Buy (not pirated). Is it possible to install and
activate on the new machine? I have a good idea on how to install it but I
need to know if it's legal.
I don't know what an OEM is but the Gateway computer that is not repairable came with Windows ME. Years later, I bought and upgraded to XP. Eventually, I bought a laptop with Vista Home Basic. However, I don't like Vista and it's not compatible with some programs that I have, namely, Adobe GoLive. All I want to do is install XP to a partition on my laptop. That's all.
If you'd like more information from me, please let me know.
