Windows Explorer will not apply request to display in details all folders.

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

XP+SP2 all patches applied.

Suddenly after 4 years windows explorer will not apply request to display
all folders in detail mode. No amount of times setting to detail view and
then going to Tools, Folder Options, View, Apply to all folders makes any
difference. Explorer only wants me to view icons and I don't want icons I
want details.

Googled many times but no answers other than to use an alternative explorer
and there are loads free and paid for.

I must have corrupted it in some way but system restore points run out
before I can get back to normal. No other problems are apparent so if you
know what to do apart from reinstalling etc. please let me know.

Trivial maybe but annoying definitely.

TIA
