I am trying to encrypt a file and or document, but when I get to the
"Advnaced Attribues" box to check "encrypt contents to secure
data" it is
not avaialbile (lilght grey instead of black)..............I know
this may seem very minor to experts on computers but I simply can't
figure it out and
have to send a document encrypted via
email............................any help is appreciated.
thanks
You are using Windows XP home edition. Encryption is only available
in the professional version. In any case, the XP encryption is not
designed for sending documents to a remote computer as the key is
specific to your computer.
For what you require, try a product such as PGP (sadly, no longer
free).
And besides, XP's encryption is only while it's on the disk. As it
comes off the disk, it is decrypted, so it's not a way to send an
encrypted file to someone using normal means. The enc/deenc happens as
it goes to/from the disk in XP.
