I know someone with a W98 PC who uses Telix (an old DOS programme) to send data over a dial-up
modem.

He has asked me if this will work on XP. Is XP likely to block the serial port communications?

I expect this will work, but you'll find out in a few seconds when you try it. Telix talks to the serial port address, not the hardware itself, so it should be fine.
