Re: Explorer.EXE entry point not found.

OK; thanks a lot. I'll give it a shot and let you know the results.

If you performed a repair installation of Windows XP but did not uninstall Internet Explorer 7,
Internet Explorer will not run. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps.

After getting the error message "file System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sy is missing or
corrupt" I did a repair with the original CD. After rebooting most of my
desktop icons were missing but all my files and programs are still there but
when I tried to start IE7 I got the message "the procedure entry point
SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in dll SHLWAPI.dll". I followed the
procedure described in article id 888162 to uninstall KB834707 and to remove
SP2. After the reboot when I tried to open IE7 I got the message "procedure
entry point SHRGetvalueW could not be located in dll SHLWAPI.dll"; I thought
I hadn't properly deleted SP2 and tried to do it via the Add/Remove in
Control Panel but it was completely blank when it opened. I tried via the
Task Manager but got the message "refers to a location that is unavailable".
The current version is: Windows XP 5.1 build 2600 xpclient 010817-1148.
When I look at the files in the Windows folder I don't see any reference to
ServicePack2 but I do see a KB834707uninst.log file.
At this point I am stuck since I can't use IE to add the appropriate
updates/patches to XP (or for anything for that matter) and I would
appreciate any help/advice on how to get my PC back to a "normal" state with
everything working properly.
Thanks to all who took the time to read this long post.
