After replacing a SATA hard drive in a machine and during the reinstall
process for WinXP, the install process fails at around 59-60% every time
with a general blue screen error that says something to the effect of:
'Error
copying file, press R to retry or ESC to ignore or F3 to exit.' Its
always a different file name or names (if pressing ESC), but always
happens around
59-60% of the copy file process. The WinXP install process will recognize
the hard disk and even format it okay, but for some reason it fails to
completely reinstall Windows XP. We have even tried different SATA drives
and different CD & DVD drives for the install disk, as well as trying to
find specific device drivers from the manufacturer (no RAID on this
machine or
anything), but to no avail. TIA for any help on this one...
You have some hardware failure. Since you've already replaced the optical
and hard drives, it must be something else. Your installation CD could be
bad so test it on another machine or use a different install disk. It must
match the version to which your Product Key belongs (XP Pro/Home
retail/OEM). Also test the RAM and the power supply.
