Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

You should be able to rt click the D: drive Icon in MyComputer and
select Rename and type in local disk.

My laptop running WindowsXP SP 3 had one harddrive divided into 2
partitions...
C:(system) and D:\drives. Ok ,so i recently decided to wipe my D: and
split
it up into two parts. First part would be a new smaller D:\ drive and the
second half would be left as Free space to eventually put a Linux distro
on.
Anyways now in Windows Explorer it shows D:\New Volume and not D:\local
disk.
How come?

ps If you are wondering why the drive letter shows first it is a registry
change i made several years ago. I prefer the drive letter first.
