you might try using the cmd line shutdown command.
shutdown -s -t nn (where nn is seconds delayed)

All I need is a registry setting in XP to over ride the warning about
other users
being logged on and just shut down
Sorry, I'm not aware of any such setting. Perhaps someone else knows.
