So you've done a Recovery reinstall of Windows.
1. After making certain you have a copy of your Product Key for NIS 2008, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and any Norton Add-ons listed) via Add/Remove Programs.
2. Enable the Windows Firewall.
NB: You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) except #XX below until NIS 2008 has been installed and fully updated!
3. Run this removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
4. Reboot and /immediately/ install NIS 2008.
5. Manually update* NIS 2008 then run a full system scan.
Do your problems persist now?
========================
*NIS 2008 should be configured to seek and install updates automatically and daily at a time when the machine is usually running and connected to the internet. NAV should also be configured to run a full system scan a few minutes after seeking/installing updates, also daily. Anything less is simply insufficient these days.

ok, not sure where to start, but here it goes...about 2 wks ago i ran disc
cleanup and defrag, then the system shut itself down, turned it back on and
it went to bsod...i then did system restore, however there was no where to
restore it too...so i did the restore anyway...it restored back to when we
first bought it in 2005...i have done the updates for windows and microsoft,
no problem, the entire system runs much faster and smoother now...but now,
the norton internet security 2008 i purchased in may 2008, won't install(it
was removed when restore done), i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, keep
getting error.....please someone give me easy step by step help
instructions, i cannot afford to take it to someone or have someone come
look at it. i am not a computer genius, but i understand the basics and
can handle easy instructions....oh yeah, on yesterday i used "ca antispy"
from yahoo, it found a trojan virus and removed it....but i still cannot
install norton.
