Turning off auto-installation of updates when shutting down comput

Two Questions;
Background: I like to manually search for, select, and install updates.
Somehow, XP Home Edition -- SP3, has decided that it will automatically
download updates and then tells me it will automatically install them unless
I use a particular shut-down link when I shut down.
I turned off the automatic download feature in Security Center.
Q1. Where does XP Home Ed. store downloaded updates so I can eliminate
these extra updates I don't want?
Q2. How can I get rid of this shut-down screen that wants to install updates
on shut-down unless I click on a particular shut-down link?
I don't mind having the option, but I do mind not being able stop it. Some
downloads I just don't want.
Thanks,
Moxieman
