[shrugs shoulders] It isn't what I would have tried first, but do what you
like. If you want to extract that .dll and copy it to Windows/System32 on
the hard drive, go for it. If it fixes your issue, great.

I ran the memory test and received many errors! I inspected the MB, and
found a dark spot on an unused memory slot that looked like it might have
been burned - arcing? I cleaned it up. I also cleaned the DIMM contacts and
re-installed. Ran test again for long time and no errors!
Tried extracting the .dll win said might be corrupt but no change - still
stops at same point with blue screen.
Did a repair/install of XP. A few errors came up during install, but I do
now have computer up and running. I have at least one issue where I get a
message saying I need to re-install status.msi but it can't find the
installation package. Used Ctrl/Alt/Del to get rid of popup, but presume
this will come back again.
Read somewhere that this might be to do with HP printer. Will try
re-installing software. Also have DL Windoes Installer Cleanup - maybe that
will help?
During the repair/installation of XP several items produced errors and were
bypassed. If these are needed, will XP alert me or should I run something
like SFC to ensure everything is there?
Plan is to first backup drive and maybe find another MB or barebones box.
(Lost confidence in this MB).
