HELP! XP STOP error !

My wifes computer has a serious problem! This developed the other day when
the computer froze and she went to reboot. Computer is generic model with
Asus A7A266 Socket A motherboard. It has a single 512MB DDR DIMM for memory.
What happens, is that it goes through the boot process, the Windows XP
splash screen appears but then we get a blue STOP screen that says:
STOP C0000221 {bad image checksum } The image CRYPTUI.DLL is possibly
corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computer checksum.
The computer then reboots in an endless loop.
I have tried using F8 to start up in safe mode, but this does not work - it
fails at same point. None of the options on the F8 manu achieve anything.
I checked the BIOS and it reports that 512MB of memory are there. Not sure
if it tests the memory.
XP is on an Ugrade CD. The comuter belonged to a relative, and we don't have
a boot disk. I do have boot floppies (probably W98SE) and a W2K Pro boot CD,
but have not tried any of these. Also have my original windows version on
floppy - Windows for Workgroups - Upgraded many times since then!
Question:
How do I get access to the hard drive and try and fix this problem!
