Re: Lost Part of Control Panel - Pls Help

What happens if you place the cursor on a blank area of the Desktop and
select Properties?

Otherwise try my earlier suggestion.

The normal way to restore missing or damaged files in the system32
folder is to use the System File Checker tool. Try Start, Run, type "sfc
/scannow" without quotes and hit Enter.

File Checker (Sfc.exe)

You will need your Windows XP CD. You may encounter problems if your CD
does not include SP3 as seems likely.

Read this link as it contains a way forward if you have no CD
http://ask-leo.com/i_dont_have_an_installation_cd_for_windows_xp_what_if_i_need_one.html

If you need to point to a folder try C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386.

Hope this helps.

The Display Control Panel applet is desk.cpl. In TweakUi is this
present and checked?

I wish. The desk.cpl was checked.... I had checked every option to
make sure when I checked the mouse applet. To double check, I undid
the click, hit apply, then reentered, hit apply after which I
rebooted. Still nada. Don't know if this tells you anything but I
have the old style menu only available from the Control Panel on start
menu. The slick new userinterface that offers power options, etc. is
nowhere to be found. Neither is any to make display settings, from
changing wallpaper to color schemes, etc. Hmn, I wonder if something
like a windows pack for changing themes, etc. would help? Still,
display should be there somewhere. Wonder if I should look in the
Windows system folder. I'll check.
