Its suppose to disable the ones you call silly, this key:
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\EnableBalloonTips"
Running the script the second time will undo the changes. (Enable /Disable)

Would that also disable the hover over tips, or just the irritating 'just in
case you didn't know your hard drive is working flat out trying to reconnect
you we'll waste even more processor on this stupid message too', messages?
I'd like to turn off the silly ones, but not the hover overs.
Looks like another useful Kelly gizmo just the same.

Try Kelly's Tweak:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 11. Enable/Disable Balloon Tips
To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive
(you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

Hi all,
At the moment I'm working on my new system. And there are a quite a few
things I need to set before I'm happy with it. One of the things I hate
is
how XP handles ' and ". At the moment I need to follow it by pressing the
space bar before the quote or double quote appears. But that´s not the
question of this post.
I´m wondering how I can disable the text balloons that pop up from the
system tray? I dislike messages instructing me to press here to view/hide
icons, and the like.
At the same time, in the future I would like to develop a program that
uses
pop ups from the system tray. I gather that the program will not work
when
I've disabled the text balloons? So what do I need to do to enable them?
(when different from what you need to do to disable them).
TIA,
Michel
