Re: Automatic Updates

Which log file please? And will deleting a log file do any harm?

What has downloaded?

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type: %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate what has
recently
downloaded and waiting to install.

If you don't want this to happen in the future (updates downloading),
configure AU to
notify only.

FYI All downloaded updates go into the softwaredistribution folder under
downloads if you
wish to delete any, but if you do that because you don't want them to
install, you had
better change your AU settings.

Ok, from the log file, I can see that in the last two days three updates
have been downloaded: KB941569, KB936929, and KB923689 (which is SP3).
SP3 downloaded on 7/18, the other two downloaded on 7/19 (I'm wondering
why
windows update never notified me of these downloads?)

There are three folders in the softwaredistribution folder that are dated
7/18 and 7/19. If I delete the one from 7/18, will it force Windows to
redo the notification if I change my update settings?

Download but notify me has always worked in the past, until now, the
shield
icon has always stayed in the taskbar until I decided what I wanted to do.
But not this time.

I just need more time to prepare for the SP3 update, and yes, I've read
numerous information from microsoft on what to do before updating, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Patty
