Bill, I did copy all the photos into one Folder on the PC and then copied the
contents of the entire folder into the memory stick and at the very end, I
got the same message the it could not create the particular
file,................... then when I attempted to copy one or more files into
the memory stick it would not do it. Can't figure it out.

An Open file handle means an application or operating system has a
file opened for access. In some cases that will prevent other apps or
functions from gaining use of the file.
To run a Chkdsk:
Click Start, Run ( Type ) cmd [Enter]
(Type)
Chkdsk C: [Enter]If the volume/disk is "Dirty" then Chkdsk will report that it found
errors it was unable to resolve. It recommends a alternate run of
Chkdsk with a /F qualifier that tells the OS to fix the issues and can
only be
done at the early part of the boot sequence before Windows has fully
loaded. To queue up a boot-time chkdsk you have to re-enter the command &
add a /F or /R to it and then answer Y to schedule it at the next
boot. *Chkdsk with Fix or Repair can make changes to the volume that
may result in data loss. DO NOT run Chkdsk /F /R unless your drive is
fully backed up or imaged.

DSC327 wasn't the only file that it happened to. Other attempts got
same message only with a different file. What is a File Handle
opened mean? Also
how do I perform a Read-Only Chkdsk on the source volume.
Thanks for the help.

Is it possible that the file in question has been recently opened
or accessed with a program ? You may have a File Handle opened
on that file. None of the other conditions ( size, file count )
would account for the inability of Explorer to successfully copy
it. It' also possible the file itself may be corrupted - can you
open and view the contents of DSC327 ?
You may also want to do a Read-Only Chkdsk on the source volume.

I have a 1GB Scandisk memory stick and was attempting to download
340 pics amounting to approx 380MB's on to it from my Computer
(XP) and when it was just about finished this message popped up-
"Cannot copy DSC327: The Directory or file cannot be created."
The photo that was not copied just happened to be the last photo
of the 340.
The rest were copyed just fine.
I tried to copy again several times different photos on to the
same memory stick with the 239 pics on it from another folder and
got the same error message.
One last attempt I tried to download the same photos onto a 2GB
Memory stick
and got the same message. I just cannot download any more
pictures on either
of the Memory sticks. They cannot be full? Does anyone have any
suggestion that might help me?
Tracy
You can only have so many files in the root. Is this where you are
installing them? If so, try creating a folder and place them in
there. See:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/120138
Do you know what I mean Tracy? Make a folder and copy the files in there. As
your problems will go away.
