I am running XP with 5 user accounts. I use the login screen with theI have seen this bug randomly turn up on a number of XP machines. It seems
icons. At times when somebody logs out, the keyboard does not work when
trying to log in again. I am not able to enter a password or tab around
options - nothing happens. The only way to fix this is to reboot, or to
click on a user account that does not use a password to log in, and log out
immediately from that account - it works OK then.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
to not make a difference if the machine is using a USB or PS2 style
keyboard. I've gone through the power settings and BIOS settings with
nothing able to "cure" the problem machine. With the machines I'm dealing
with it only seems to happen when using actual XP drivers from Microsoft and
not on systems that are using a third party driver like those supplied by
Logitech, but since it happens so randomly it's really hard to nail down the
actual cause of the problem.
While I have not been able to locate an actual fix for the problem I am
aware of a work-around that usually gets you going with out having to reboot
the computer.
When the problem happens again, do the three key "control-alt-delete"
sequence twice in a row. This normally brings up a login window where you
can type in the user name and password you want to use. Once that's done
the problem usually seems to disappear for a while, or until the wild winds
of chance once again turn against you.
