Hi,
Try pressing the shift key fives times and/or hold down both shift keys at the same time. Also, under Accessibility Options, Settings uncheck Use Shortcut.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Someone was pressing the Shift Key too long and we ended up with Swift key
or whatever that is. We straightened it out by exiting the application. BUT
.. now every time we start the computer or restart, key strokes don't display
on the screen. The only way to fix it is to hold down the Shift Key for
awhile until it makes a sound and then you can type characters which display.
It happens only when we start the computer. There must be a switch setting
I'm missing somewhere?
Computer is Laptop Dell 2600 Inspiron running XP Home.
Help!
