I don't know the answer to your question; however, I too found the XP search
capability was incomplete and extremely slow. Accordingly, I installed a
freebie call Agent Ransack
< http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/download.aspx > and it runs circles
around the native search capability.

How do I rebuild the search index in Windows XP? I downloaded Windows
Desktop
Search, but searches are incomplete. I read that rebuilding the search
index
would eliminate this issue.
I was unable to use the following instructions:
--> Control Panel
--> System and Maintenance
--> Indexing Options
--> Advanced
--> Rebuild
because I don't have a "System and Maintenance" category when I click on
Control Panel -- and yes, I am looking at it in Category view, not Classic
view.
Where can I go to rebuild the search index?
