Problem with display adapter and monitor

XP Pro SP2
My LCD monitor has both analog and digital modes. At startup, the
monitor sometimes sets to one mode, sometimes the other. Digital looks
best except it causes some media players like Miro and VLC media
players have a blacked out video screen.
I am suspicious about the drivers. I have updated the drivers for my
GeForce FX 5500 Graphics card and the my ViewSonic VA912b monitor. But
I installed them without uninstalling the old.
Graphics card driver:
In device manager the driver for the display adapter is NVIDIA,
v8.4.2.1, 3/9/2005
Driver install file: 84.21_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql.exe
Monitor Drivers:
Device manager shows two identical "default monitors" and two
identical "ViewSonic VA912-4 series".
Driver for "Default Monitor":
(Microsoft) v5.1.2001, 6/6/2001
Driver for "ViewSonic VA912-4 Series" monitor:
(ViewSonic) v1.5.0.0, 10/26/2005
Driver install file: Standard_Monitor_Driver_Unsigned_080519.exe
The display settings are set for a second monitor, not connected, from
when I tried unsuccessfully to send a wireless connection to my TV.
[control panel] [display] [settings] shows both monitors as ViewSonic
also, which is wrong. The second monitor (wireless to TV) is on a VGA
port and should be analog. The [control panel] [display] [settings]
listbox for the second display has two identical "ViewSonic" options.
How can I make one of them the "default monitor" driver, which I
assume is analog? (Similarly for display #1)
Q -- How should I handle the driver situation.
Information/Advice would be appreciated,
Stan Hilliard
