Duh! I had a senior moment. I should have known TIF meant Temporary
Internet files.
I checked my internet options settings against yours, item by item, and
discovered the following irregularities:
On the Security Tab:
1. I have an item named .NET Framework-reliant components, which is checked
for "High Safety".
2. I have an item for Java VM:
Java Permission, checked for "High Safety"
On the Advanced Tab:
1. Between my section on Java Sun & Multimedia Services, I have a section
for Microsoft VM, which you do not have. It has 3 items:
Java Console enabled is checked
Java Logging enabled is not checked
JIT Compiler for VM enabled is checked
2. Your Phishing filter for Automatic Website checking is turned off, mine
was turned off.
My Java console indicates that I have Java Standard Version 6
Do you see anything there that could be a problem?

applet won't. They all work fine for me on both XP SP3 and Vista HP SP1 with
the latest Sun JRE installed. I guess you could uninstall and reinstall Java
and see if that helps. Also, I always uninstall any previous version of Sun
JRE through add/remove programs before installing the latest version.
Didn't know you weren't using OE. The TIF is the Temporary Internet Files.
Don't know why flash doesn't work for you. Works fine here in both XP and
Vista. You can see here if it's installed:

Some people have had to uninstall:

month was kind of wild so I have just gotten around to following up on this
problem. Here is where it stands now:
The applet on http://www.anfyteam.com worked fine with the IE7 but I still
get the little red X's on the Yahoo game site. I followed your instructions

Also, since my last posting about this problem, iWin downloaded and
installed a new game manager update, and now I am getting the little red x's
in the game listing. I also keep getting messages about script errors and a
message that I need to download and install Macromedia Flash Player (which I
was pretty sure I already had), but when I click on the supplied link, I get
a message that "one or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed, then
another script error, but I did get the download page for the Adobe Flash
Player and I was not able to get it downloaded correctly. I am going to try
again while I wait to hear back from you. I really appreciate your help
with
this. It is driving me crazy.

It sounds like your default medium security and privacy settings should be
okay. You could compare them against these:

Also, you may want to try this with the browser windows closed:
Go to 'Control Panel' > 'Java(TM) Control Panel' > 'Advanced' tab >
'Default Java for browsers' section and uncheck 'Microsoft Internet
Explorer', apply the change and close the Java Control Panel. Then
delete the TIF and open IE and go here: http://www.anfyteam.com
Of course the applet won't be working. Next, close IE, delete the TIF and
go back to the Java Control Panel and check 'Microsoft Internet Explorer'
apply the change, etc. Then open IE again and go back to the anfy webpage
and hopefully the applet will work fine and all applets will work fine in
IE
with Sun JRE only installed. I ran into this problem some time ago
(running
IE6, not IE7) with the red-x showing instead of the applet image and I
finally stumbled into the above through trial and error to fix it.

If you have MS JVM and want to uninstall it, I've found this website to

The manual uninstall method should work okay for you.
You should be able to view applets in any webpage if you have Sun JRE
(Java
Runtime Environment) installed. You can install it from here:

I would first uninstall any older versions of Sun JRE in add/remove
programs
before installing the newer version of Sun JRE.
