Re: Worm protection switched off?

Norton is infamous for being a hard to remove software. Go to the start
menu, run and type: msconfig and hit OK. On the resulting screen, look
at the startup tab to see what programs are being started at boot. If you
don't understand an entry, Google it. Look for anything related to Norton
and disable it by removing the check mark in front of its name.

I did have it, but I'm sure I uninstalled it long before I started using
Avast.

I was using AVG in-between but it was only free temporarily so switched to
Avast. The 'worm protection' warning has only just started coming up in
the
last week or so though, not since I first installed Avast. (?)

The majority of the references to "worm protection" that I found pertain
to
a Norton program. Do you or did you have Norton AV?

Hi all, not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but....

Every time I switch on my laptop a balloon message pops up from a
warning
icon in the bottom right corner of desk top saying something like 'Worm
protection is turned off, your computer may be at risk, click here to
switch
on'. On clicking the balloon to rectify a windows security box comes
up.
there are only 3 options given as follows:-
1. Firewall
2. Automatic Updates
3. Virus Protection

All are already switched on. I can't figure out a way to turn 'worm
potection' on from here as everything possible is already switched on.

I have Windows XP and use Avast! residential security programme.

Can anyone help, I'm getting quite worried.

Regards,

DorisDay.
