Thanks Michael,
I don't know where SCSI came from when I wrote the query, minor brainstorm!
I meant of course SATA.
But I guess your hint applies anyway. Thanks. I'll give that a trial (and,
yes, I am in UK (Wales)).
I did notice the initial setup loading various SCSI things but do not recall
seeing any SATA things.

I suppose that you are in the United Kingdom. If so, then
http://www.medion.co.uk/
may have an XP SCSI driver for your Medion computer.
Click the " -> More " in Drivers & Updates.

Put the number they want in the form. Click " Search "

Hi Folks,
Can anyone help with this, please?
I have read various help files on setting up a dual boot with XP
installed into a separate partition on a system with Vista pre-installed.
The system is a Medion system with SCSI internals, 3Gb RAM and Intel Quad
processor. Not sure what details are relevant to this problem .
I have created a blank partition using Paragon Hard Disk Manager,
formatted NTFS version 3.01 (as it was). I have not re-formatted it,
perhaps I should.
I hide the Vista partition and make it Inactive and the new one active.
Now try booting from XP Pro (OEM) CD:
I am NOT offered a choice of partition but I assume it is the now only
active primary partition that will be used.
Various items are loaded in a blue screen with bottom info line and it
gets to 'Starting windows' but then stops with 'found a problem' and STOP
code
0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000
The words suggest it has a problem with the HD but I have run a check on
the partition using the Paragon boot recovery disk and it reports no
errors.
The problem repeats.
Any ideas? Is the NTFS version wrong for XP? should I change the XP
partition to FAT32?
XP Setup does ask if I need to load a third-party SCSI driver but I
cannot find any such thing on the Drivers supplied; how would I find out
about this?
Thanks.
Derek
