Follow up, I went through the Display/Appearance/Advanced/Items and reset
the font to Microsoft Sans Serif and everything is good with the mouse
/keyboard property windows. Don't know how this had an affect because it was
already set to that font but at least the problem with the property windows
is fixed. It appears that there are only certain color schemes that give an
option of different font sizes. As I had in my earlier post some schemes
have one(normal or large depending on the scheme) or two (normal and large)
or all three(normal, large and extra large). Greg T

OK I run Windows Classic style and on the appearance tab in display
properties I only had as a choice of Normal for font size. So I played
around with the color schemes and if I set it to Windows Standard I get
the font size choices back(Normal-Extra Large-Large). I don't have
"Custom" choice there though I can change font size in Appearance/Advanced
button. I run a theme with my own desktop, colors, icon sizes, etc. If I
go to appearances tab and change the color scheme to a different color
than I lose the choice for font size(back to just normal for a choice).
Depending on what color scheme I chose I get different option for font
size some just normal some just normal and large some normal, large and
extra large. Further if I pick certain color(pumpkin for example) I only
have a choice of large for font size. I did not try all the colors but you
get my drift. I have tried Windows XP for a theme along with many
variations but the mouse and keyboard property windows still open with the
same problem. I could be wrong but I still think that SP3 screwed this up.
I know that I can use the tab key to trip through the buttons on the
property windows but I just wanted to know if anyone else is having this
problem or some form of it. Thanks, Greg T

I'm having a problem with the mouse and keyboard property windows. I
have a
Microsoft Wireless Desktop 1000(mouse is Wireless Optical Mouse
2000/keyboard is a Wireless Multimedia Keyboard). The property windows
for
the mouse and keyboard open but the text is too large for the window
consequently the windows don't show all the text and some of the buttons
either show partially or not at all. The kicker is that this doesn't
happen
with all the tabs. The mouse tabs that are affected are: Buttons,
Scrolling,
Activities and Wireless. The keyboard tabs affected are: Key Settings
and
Wireless. OS is WinXP Pro SP3. Mouse and keyboard drivers version are
6.2.
If I uninstall mouse and keyboard drivers and just use generic
everything is
alright but I lose some of the features for the mouse and keyboard. I
tried
uninstalling video drivers(NVidia latest ones) and just using VGA but
the
problem is still there. I also used older video drivers but that didn't
help
either. I'm not sure but this could have happened when SP3 was
installed(I
don't get into the mouse/keyboard properties too often). I would
appreciate
it if anyone else has seen this problem or if anybody has a fix for
this.

You say in your next post that text is too big for the window.
How about - as a one-off perhaps..
start..ctrl..display...settings..advanced
lower the font size.. All I see the the drop-down is large and
normal.
I can choose Custom, but the lowest I can get is 75%
start..ctrl..display..appearance, but slightly different options. No
custom option.
I reckon though, at best that might only help a small bit. So it
would be a workaround and a poor one.
But if you know your way around the window, with tab, then you don't
need to see the text. You could see the text in the instruction
manual e.g. in a PDF. Or on a website.. maybe even on google images.
Hopefully somebody from Microsoft can respond..
This looks likely to be n issue with that specific MS product - it's
drivers. Maybe they are not compatible with sp3..
How about removing SP3 from add/remove programs? is that an option?
(unless you are a MS style security type who has to have windows
absolutely up-to-date as a priority)
