When you setup the RDP connection on client PC, (or edit an old one) you
set it on the 'local resources' tab. There is a place to set the devices
to use in the connection. Printers is one.
I'm looking at the new screen in SP3. But its been there in some form
in older versions.
Also, there was a bug (or I call it one) in XP SP2, that you could not use
a printer on the client during a RDP connection that is not LPT1, COM, or
USB.
ie, My laptop does not have a printer. So I share one on my desktop in
the house. Now when I connect to the office, I can't see that printer on
my laptop. There is a registry patch to fix that situation, but SP3
might have fixed it. Not sure.

I think this addresses the issue.

Or if you want just copy these lines to a file called remote.reg and then
double click it, and it will install for you. Everything between
the ----'s
-----------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server
Client\Default\AddIns\RDPDR]
"FilterQueueType"=dword:ffffffff
----------------------
I'll try it but I didn't have to do it last year. I curious observation.
In a test set up today. The local MS Image Writer showed up in printerts
and faxes on the remote PC but the printer connected to LPT 1 on the local
client PC didn';t show up. I also remeber I had to install the local
printer driver on the remote host but don't remember how I had to do it.
