Weirdness when booting XP on desktop machine

Hi,
I have an XP Pro machine which for no apparent reason changed its boot
up behaviour a while ago. Between the BIOS initialisation routines
and the XP Pro / flag screen there appears a progress bar on the plain
black background which wasn't there before and doesn't appear on any
other XP machine I've use. The bar is akin to the one which occurs
when I come out of hybernation on my notebook but without the "tank
track" background.
Can anyone tell me what this signifies and what is different about my
machine that would esplain this progress bar ?
Many thanks,
Mike Davies
