If all you have is a RAID controller for SATA, then choose an option (below
XP level, almost BIOS level) to make an "array" with only one disk. This
option is sometimes called "just a bunch of disks", meaning that the disks
are treated individually and not internconnected in any way. The DVD burner
can not, of course, be connected to any other device in the raid sense.
But, be aware that even if XP is willing to read and write from such a
device, it is possible that the PC may not boot from it, such as for running
diagnostic and repair software (e.g., XP recovery console). Test this, and
if true, then plan on having a plain old fashioned parallel ATA CD-ROM
reader available for emergencies.

The mobo drivers all refer to RAID and I don't plan to run RAID.
Thanks.
