For maximum safety, I suppose, one could physically disconnect the machine from the internet before disabling an anti-virus application or a third-party firewall. 9 times out of 10, though, merely a setting or Add-on needs to be disabled before making the change(s).

Perhaps the most important things to understand here are why and how such changes are disallowed by such applications. If you don't understand this, perhaps you shouldn't have these "protections" installed/enabled in the first place.

I tried disabling them and as you said it didn't work (I am running Kaspersky AV, Ad-aware and SpywareBlaster) so I will next uninstall them and see if that helps. ...
