Let's start with your networking issue. From this web page, click on the + sign
next to Network.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&ServiceTag=8PX1R2J
Download and install the second item listed, Broadcom -Driver, 440x 10/100
Integrated Controller. That's for your laptop's NIC.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R149798&SystemID=InspironI6400/E1505&servicetag=8PX1R2J&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2966&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=198980
As for your wireless network adapter, it's the last one in the Network section,
Intel Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R171131&SystemID=InspironI6400/E1505&servicetag=8PX1R2J&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=9540&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=7&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=233125
You should also download and install the following drivers;
Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio in the Audio
section
Intel Mobile Chipset Driver in the Chipset section
Intel 945GM Graphics Controller in the Video section
The above list of drivers is based on the information from this configuration
page.

Hi People
I hope someone is able to help. I was having problem with my laptop with
applications so i decided to format it and install Windows XP again, which
i
have been able to do. Problem i am having is that i am not able to connect
to
my wireless connection and the wizard is not helping.
Could someone please assist me with connecting my laptop to my wireless
modem?
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and my wireless modem is Netgear
Regards
Saeed
PS thanks for your help in advance.
After you finished installing Windows XP, did you install the latest drivers
for
your laptop's hardware devices?
Go to Control Panel and double click the System icon. Click on the Hardware
tab.
On the Hardware page, hit the Device Manager button. In Device Manager, look
for
items with yellow exclamation points next to them. You need to install
drivers
for these devices so they'll work properly. You can obtain the latest drivers
from this Dell web site.
Dell Drivers and Downloads

The easiest way to find the correct drivers is by entering your laptop's
service
tag. Look on the bottom of your laptop for a sticker with a bar code and
seven
alphanumeric characters. If you can't find the service tag, you'll have to
pick
through the drivers listed here;
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
If after installing the correct drivers for your laptop's wireless networking
adapter you still can't establish a connection, you might want to post your
question to the Windows XP Networking and the Web newsgroup.
Good luck
