Re: XP Pro Clean Install Endlessly Reboots After Udates

Thanks PA Bear.

Certainly, as you say, worth a shot, but doesn't seem to apply to the
pre-repair situation.

Second link is a good one, too, but PC was behind ISA, hardware firewall,
Windows Firewall and Trend Micro Security Client was installed and running.
Relatively secure, I guess.

Cheers,
Bill

May be related/Worth a shot:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:

I have a new PC on which I installed XP Pro SP2. Initial install runs
fine
and PC runs beautifully. After a while it starts downloading and
applying
Windows Updates. The sequence is as follows:
1. Windows Installer update - reboot - PC runs OK
2. 39 security updates - reboot - PC runs OK (except SBS Client
Application Crashed)
3. 29 updates (including IE7) - reboot
4. PC now endlessly reboots. Cannot F8 into any mode.
I ran Windows repair and got the system working again and it runs fine
until those updates are installed and Windows gets trashed.
Reformatting and reinstall get the same results!
Has anyone got any ideas here? I suspect hardware but have been wrong
before ;)
