Yes, that's exactly what I mean. It shows itself up more when new users are
trying to save a file in a folder using WORD or similar. If they are too slow
clicking on the folder they want, it goes into this 'remame' state, and then
they accidentally drag and the folder gets moved to somewhere else. Other
users in the class see the folder for one minute but then it suddenly
disappears because someone as accidentally moved it to become a sub-folder
somewhere else.
I agree slowing down the Double click feature may help, but as I said, I am
not always given access to Control Panel in a public library.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse double-click. Control

it faster so a 2 second click is not assumed to be a double click.
That will make the problem worse.
The OP called it a *slow* double click, which is a misnomer. The
feature is a *second* click, not a double click. If the folder is
already selected, a second click will open up the name for editing.
What the OP wants is a setting that disables name editing using left
click. It is already disabled in the folder panel. There you need to
right-click and select rename. I think the OP wants that behavior in
the contents (right) panel as well. That would be a useful feature.

Is it possible to turn off the Windows feature that allows you to rename a
folder by doing a slow double click on the folder name?
I teach beginners and they are not very quick at the double click to start
with and folders keep getting renamed and dragged to other folders.
