If you spend a few minutes and browse down this group or seach for subject with SP3 in it, you will get a broad set of info about it. Problems and results and links.
In general its an rollup with a few more tweaks in it. Its debated that its about 5-10% faster. Probably some extra security issues addressed. I think most of the people jumping to install it are geeks and its there and available and they can.
With SP3 slipstreamed into your original CD, a fresh load could be even lighter than it is now. This might be the best point for a small system. All the updates nicely rolled up in the OS to reload with.
Do you need it? Dos your pc work? If so, then stay where you are right now. But I'm not sure, and I'm sure others will add on, I'm not sure if there will be SP2 updates after SP3 becomes available to general public via WU. Security holes might be your only issue. I can't remember the trend when SP2 came out about dealing with SP1a machines and updates.

I read the updates SP3 is supposed to address, and as a home user that surfs the internet over a wireless network, does a minimal amount of digital photography and not a whole lot else, can't see where the updates apply to anything I use it for..
Other than just to be up to date, is there any compelling reason that a casual user would even want to update for?
My old dell laptop has a 4GB hard drive, and windows xp sp2 already has darned near 2.5 used up! That's just the os for heaven's sake. The other boxes have plenty of space, but what would I benefit from updating?
Hope some of you in the industry can help us casual users wondering.
Thanks
Mark
