Windows XP SP3 and Windows XP Gold Version.

Hello NewsGroup,
I have read much here about Windows XP SP3, and Windows XP Gold edition. Being it is not recommended to install SP3 on the Gold Version of XP. So I Google'd "What is Windows XP Gold", and got not as many different answers to links.
Some links stated it was the code base used for that particular release, some stated it was a System Builder's Edition. I don't know, and the reason why I ask is, how do I determine if my copy of XP is XP gold? It is the Professional retail edition with Version 2002 on the box. No service packs, more correctly, pre-service packs.
Here are some quotes for some websites regarding my query;
"A Gold version is a version that was released to manufacturing. But in today's marketing, they can plaster that onto just about anything. In short, it means little."
"...XP "Gold" being the first release made to PC manufacturers. This "Gold" version code is not for consumers but for PC Makers such as HP/Compaq/DELL etc..."
Thanks and regards,
