no internet connect exists on my DSL

Something wierd is going on, I have a 2nd pc which up until today was
working fine.
I shut it down for a few hours, and when I powered it back up, my lan
connect reports it's unplugged
well it isn't, I use a router and all ports test fine, the cable tests fine,
I do not see a lite on my lan port on the pc.
of course I tried to ping my other computer, no joy,
system reports my onboard lan is working fine, but windows says it's
disconnected.
I tried booting into dos using fixit to run a diag, it reports nothing (no
tests) to run on the onboard lan connection.
I'm wondering if the latest windows update did this, the other ps has the
same update and is working fine.???

any ideas?
