I subscribe to a winxp newsletter and one of the "how to" features in the

How to take ownership of a folder
Sometimes you might not be able to open a folder because it was created
by someone else, even if you're an administrator. That's because you don't
have permissions. But you can take ownership and then you can change those
permissions. Here's how:
1.. Log on with an administrative account
2.. Right click on the folder you want to be able to open
3.. Select Properties
4.. Click on the Security tab
5.. Click on the Advanced button
6.. Click on the Owner tab
7.. In the list of names, click on your user name
8.. To take ownership, click on Replace Owner on Subcontainers and
Objects
9.. Click OK and the click Yes
i have windows xp and i am logged in as the administrator (as i am the only
user) but when i open a folder and click on properties, i there is no security
tab. . i don't understand. . .
Just curious. . .. thanks for any info
By default, the Security tab is not displayed in the folder's properties ***.
How you access the Security tab depends on which version of XP is installed on
your computer.
If you have XP Professional, go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View
page -> Uncheck Use simple file sharing.
If you have XP Home Edition, the only way to access the Security tab is to boot
the computer into Safe Mode. Restart your computer and keep hitting the F8 key
until you see the menu where you can select Safe Mode.
