Re: WinXP CRS Problem...Folder Views

Okie. I rebooted, and all changes seem to be holding perfectly now. And I
created your .REG file as you instructed. So, if this happens again, I just
merge it, and I should be good to go?

I'm glad to here 'so far so good'

I went crazy with that program, spending hours, days, even weeks setting
up my views. Here's a tip, after spending that much time I did not want to
do it again so I found a way to save all my new view settings, which I can
now restore anytime. Go to this Registry Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam

Your views are saved under the "Bags" key. But just exporting that key
alone won't be enough, so export the whole "ShellNoRoam" key. Edit the reg
file adding:

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]

to the very top, under "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00", of course.
This will delete all views then restore the saved settings. Skipping that
step will just add to the key causing problems. Another thing, you should
still set a default view to [Folder Options\Views]-Apply to all Folders".
Also you can now disable "Remember each folder's view settings".

Example:

========================
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]

(rest of reg file content...)
========================

If you have any problems or questions post and I'll respond.

It appears to have worked! LOL <jumps for joy>

I'll post again later on, after I reboot and see if it carried. :)

Let me begin by saying I've been using XP Pro since it came out. I'm
very well familiar with navigating around XP, customizing things, and
generally tweaking things out. So saying, I'll get to my problem.

I've appropriately checked the correct properties under the Folder
options, and set my views how I want them. Applied to all folders, and
everything is good to go. Until I close a Windows Explorer window. Then
when I open up another one, things get hairy:

1) After closing Explorer, then opening another window:
Whatever I did to the view in Explorer at "My Computer" (where all
drives are listed) carries over on every folder on my E: drive - none
of the other drives (I have drives to M).

2) When rebooting, all folder views are either reset to default, or
completely skewed on all drives. ALL of them.

I never had this problem until I wiped and reinstalled a couple weeks
ago. I installed Office, Everything was normal. I installed Visual
Studio, and that's where things started going haywire. Then I went to
WindowsUpdate, to get things caught up, and the problem persisted. Most
recently, I even installed the pre-release of Service Pack 3...All to
no avail.

Speed is of the essence for me. If I have to hunt for my things, it
takes me longer to accomplish anything. Customizing my folder views
also allows me to keep track of my system files, documents and archives
easier, and I can tell when something's changed. Now with this problem
going on, my productivity suffers far too much. If I can't get this
"CRS" (can't remember sh**) problem fixed, I'm very likely to go
insane. I have over a terabyte of data to keep track of, and this is
making that Ubuntu disc look very interesting right about now. Please
help before I go postal.

Thanks SO much. :)
